Priority Funding Areas of the Candle Foundation

  • The Elderly
    Assisting with bills, necessities, emotional support, and or providing nutritious meals who have difficulty preparing their own food.

  • The Less Fortunate
    Providing food, clothing, personal care items, and encouragement.

  • Families in Crisis

    Bringing hope, food, and gifts during the holiday season and/or in times of unexpected need.

Areas Not Generally Considered by The Candle Lockett Foundation

  • Support to individuals

  • Fundraising events, annual sustaining campaigns, or endowment funds

  • Programs that are fundamental to the responsibilities of the government

  • Social or fraternal organizations

  • Elementary or secondary schools

  • Sponsorship of athletic teams

  • Organizations whose core mission is advocacy

  • Organizations heavily engaged in lobbying

  • Organizations whose mission and activities are contrary to the faith statement that made this Foundation possible

Grant Application Procedures

Grant applications window opens on “Giving Tuesday”, December 2, 20205, and closes on March 31, 2026. Applicants are requested to review the above grant guidelines to determine that your organization and need is eligible for consideration of a grant.

Grant evaluation process

The grant evaluation process enables all Directors to give thorough and fair consideration to an ever-growing number of grant requests.

  • All applications are received and processed. You will receive

  • The Directors will receive copies of all grant requests.

  • Every grant request is read and evaluated by each Director.

  • Directors give each grant request a funding priority as high, medium or low.

  • Directors suggest an alternate funding amount if the requested amount seems too large or otherwise inappropriate.

  • Directors return their ratings to the President to aggregate funding priorities based on a simple numeric scale.

  • The prioritized list is returned to the Directors.

  • When they meet in March, the Directors will discuss the grants in the order that they appear on the list.

  • They decide on an amount to be awarded for each request, moving down the list until the amount available to be given has been exhausted.

  • Determination notifications will be emailed to all applicants approximately two weeks after the board's meeting in March.

 

Deadlines

The deadline to submit your application is March 31, 2026.

Grants are only made to organizations that are tax-exempt under 501(c)(3) and must be in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service or be a government entity described in section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.
